And That’s Not All
For years and years architects and designers all over the world have been designing thousands of chairs, upright chairs and armchairs, all different and all fruit of infinite inventiveness. I have even designed two or three myself. But it seems that the problem has not yet been altogether solved, because architects and designers all over the world are still going on designing chairs, just as if all their efforts up till now had been wrong.
A very thorough market research campaign on people’s taste in chairs has established that they must answer the following requirements: they must be comfortable, luxurious, rustic, fanciful, strictly technical and functional, broad, narrow, high, low, hard, soft, flexible, elegant, rigid, compact, large and impressive, made of a single material, made of variety of materials, while the favored materials are rare and rough, as well as refined and crude.
